Make Money Get Prizes

I loved comic books as a kid. I loved the art. I loved the stories. I would get lost in the fantasy worlds created by greats like Jack Kirby. I would lovingly browse the racks at my local comic store deciding what I would buy with my hard-earned money. To this day, I still love the smell every time I walk in.

When I landed in art school years later my painting instructor told me to stop outlining everything. I didn’t listen to him. I dropped out of art school and I still outline everything.

I also loved the comic book ads. All of the monsters, novelties and more. I ordered the X-Ray Spex and was so disappointed I couldn’t see through the girls’ clothes at school.

And like many kids of my generation, I dreamt of making money and getting prizes by selling seeds or copies of Grit magazine.

That dream never came true for me. Others did though.
