A lot of my generation knows the Walt Whitman poem “O Captain! My Captain!” from the movie Dead Poets Society. Often considered a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln, in the movie Robin William’s students pledge their allegiance to him after he’s fired.

Like the Union soldiers following Lincoln into war or the movie’s fictional students standing on their desks in protest, I would follow these two legendary captains wherever they took me.
