As I mentioned, back in 2007, I briefly picked up a paintbrush again. I did a whole series of Lucha Libre paintings, mostly of the greatest of them all: El Santo. My brain is a mash-up of decades of America’s cultural garbage, and so Sponto was born.

A couple of years later, my Grandma Max, in her 80s, walked by, saw it, said, “That’s a nice Sponto,” and kept walking. I always wondered where she saw another Sponto.
