Garbage

This started out as a few characters on a cheap piece of poster board in 2007. I was painting for the first time since the 80s. Then I stopped.

Then when the pandemic hit I picked up my brushes again and began with this. I added a few more characters, and then a few more. And then like the old Fabergé shampoo commercial about the person who told two friends it became “and so on, and so on, and so on…”

This painting is a perfect reflection of the garbage that occupies my brain. I created a border of typewritten advertising slogans because I cannot walk by a bottle of Palmolive without thinking “You’re soaking in it.”

I ended up with 186 different cultural icons spanning more than half a century. How many can you guess? Get this painting and entertain your friends! It’s fun for the whole family! Get the most right and you can win a NEW CAR!

Acrylic on paper. Measures 33” x 26”.
